- Phonex Corporation TM Corporation (www.phonex.com), a world leader in Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, unveiled a revolutionary new powerline chip at the CES trade show today. The new ReadyWireTM Home Communications Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Chip is on display at Phonex Booth 34057 in the Upper South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The product will be available to developers in Q3 2003.
The new ReadyWire chip Phonex is demonstrating at CES will provide developers with vastly improved methods for connecting every type of device in the home with streaming audio, Internet video and home automation control. In addition, this new chip uses an ARM 946 processor core with up to 100 MIPS of reserve power. Developers will be able to access this processor to operate other device functions such as device control, modems and MP3 decoders and realize a significant savings in design costs. The patented ReadyWire design is completely co-existent with current communication technologies and offers a broad range of development interfaces. With its available processor power and multi-media connectivity, the ReadyWire ASIC chip will enable a new market of inexpensive, connected devices for the home.
"With close to 10 million installed devices, Phonex has established a reputation as an innovator in powerline communication," said Michael Wolf, Director of Enterprise and Residential Communications for analyst firm In-Stat/MDR. "With the ReadyWire's high level of integration, and the ability to broadcast high quality audio to as many as 250 devices, I anticipate that this offering is going to be a much anticipated platform for new home audio system designs."
"We anticipate that a great application for the ReadyWire will be an intercom, or playing MP3s all through the house," said Cheryl Currid, president of analyst/consulting firm Currid & Company, of Houston, Texas. "The ReadyWire will be an ideal solution for all the homes that aren't wired for speakers."
