Phonex Corporation Announces NeverWireTM USB/Ethernet Bridge; Product Wins CES Innovation Award

-New product is first to combine USB and Ethernet on a single powerline network device-

MIDVALE, Utah December 16, 2002 - Phonex Corporation TM Corporation (www.phonex.com), a world leader in Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, today announced the newest product in the NeverWireTM family. Continuing the success of NeverWire 14 QX-201TM, a HomePlug 1.0-compliant device that uses "powerline carrier" technology to make use of the unused bandwidth in standard electrical wiring, the company today announced the new NeverWire USB/Ethernet Bridge.

Phonex will unveil the NeverWire USB/Ethernet Bridge at the CES tradeshow from January 9-12 in Booth 34057. At the show, the product will also be given a CES Innovation Award. The new bridge product will be available to consumers worldwide in Q2 2003 for a price of US$99.

"The Innovation Award represents being the best product worldwide for that category for that moment," said John Knab, Phonex CEO. "Being the best in the world at anything is a rare privilege, and the Phonex team is honored to be recognized as such. We fully recognize what it takes to achieve this position in the world technology markets."

The NeverWire Bridge is the only powerline product to combine USB and Ethernet interfaces on the same device. This offers extra flexibility and convenience to business or home users who would like to create instant networks through their existing power lines to share high-speed Internet access, share peripheral devices such as printers, and play interactive network and Internet games.

Phonex also notes that few new products are instantly ready for the international market. However, the NeverWire Bridge will be immediately ready for the European market upon its release in Q2 2003. A detachable power cord makes replacement and adaptation a simple task for international users.

As with the original NeverWire device, the NeverWire Bridge offers a no-software installation. Consumers can set up their own 14MB home networks by simply plugging the products RJ-45 jack into their computer or hub and then plugging the NeverWire into the wall. Likewise, a press of a button automatically configures the NeverWire Bridge for 56 des security encryption, and a second LED button on the devices performs an instant network self-test.

One of the most popular uses of the NeverWire product family is the ability to connect a computer to a cable or DSL modem in another location of the house. The resulting network will support both Macintosh and Windows PCs. The NeverWire 14 and the NeverWire bridge are also able to support laptop computers through the laptop's Ethernet network interface card.

Consumers can use as many as 16 NeverWire units per powerline network. Each NeverWire unit is capable of handling an unlimited number of computers and other devices such as computers, modems and printers.

NeverWire products are available from Phonex and from selected retail dealers in the U.S. and worldwide. For ordering information or for a list of local retail sources, customers can contact the company at 801-566-0100, or visit the company's web site at www.phonex.com.
