– November 25, 2002
– Phonex Corporation TM Corporation (www.phonex.com),
a world leader in Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, today announced that the company's NeverWire 14 QX-201TM has been named top home networking adapter product in the December issue of Macworld magazine. The NeverWire 14 device, which launched in the U.S. market in June 2002 and in the international market shortly thereafter, is a HomePlug 1.1-compliant device that uses "powerline carrier" technology to make use of the unused bandwidth in standard electrical wiring.
Macworld magazine specializes in timely product evaluations to more than 2 million print and 2 million online readers each month. Macworld is currently published in fifteen local language editions worldwide.
In particular, Macworld noted that the NeverWire is unique in its ability to provide Macintosh users with security for their home networks. While the NeverWire is able to support PC and Macintosh equipment with equal ease, Macworld states, "If you don't have access to a PC and you want a secure network, we don't recommend anything but a NeverWire."
"The NeverWire 14 is winning regularly in competitive product reviews," said Mark Massey, Phonex vice president of Marketing and Sales. "We are extremely pleased with the positive response the NeverWire has received, and we are especially pleased to receive this strong endorsement from the Macintosh community and from the industry's leading Macintosh trade magazine."
With the NeverWire 14, business or home users with multiple computers can use their existing power lines to create an instant 14MB Ethernet network that allows them to share high-speed internet access, share peripheral devices such as printers, and play interactive network and Internet games.
Key to the NeverWire's success is the product's no-software installation. Consumers can set up their own home networks by simply plugging the product's RJ-45 jack into their computer or hub and then plugging the NeverWire into the wall. Likewise, a press of a button automatically configures the NeverWire for 56 des security encryption, and a second button on the device performs an instant network self-test.
One of the most popular uses of the NeverWire 14 device is the ability to connect a computer to an Ethernet enabled cable or DSL modem in another location of the house. The NeverWire 14 is also able to support laptop computers through the laptop's Ethernet network interface card.
Consumers can use as many as 16 NeverWire units per powerline network. Each NeverWire 14 unit is capable of handling an unlimited number of computers, printers, or other devices.
Current pricing for the NeverWire 14 is US$129 per node. The product is available from Phonex and from selected retail dealers in the U.S. and worldwide. For ordering information or for a list of local retail sources, customers can contact the company at 801-566-0100, or visit the company's web site at www.phonex.com.
