MIDVALE,
Utah
– October 01, 2002
– Phonex Corporation TM Corporation (www.phonex.com),
a world leader in Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, today announced the appointment of Patrick M. Didier to the position of International Director of Sales. In his new role, Didier is responsible for establishing and expanding the company's distribution for Phonex' new NeverWire 14 QX-201 home network device, together with establishing worldwide distribution for Phonex products that will enter the market in late 2002 and beyond. The NeverWire 14 device, which launched in the U.S. market in June 2002, is a HomePlug 1.1-compliant device that uses "powerline carrier" technology to make use of the unused bandwidth in standard electrical wiring.
Prior to joining Phonex, Didier served as a regional director for the International Business Development Office of the State of Utah, assisting Utah companies with the process of expanding to international markets. Didier has also served as the Honorary Consul of Belgium for the Rocky Mountain Sates from 1988-1992 and 1995-2001. Didier completed his degree background in International Relations and Business at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
"As with the U.S., early market response to the NeverWire 14 in the leading European markets has been tremendous," Didier said. "We look forward to an exciting and fast-paced launch of our international distribution channels for the NeverWire and for the growing Phonex product family into the European markets and worldwide."
"Patrick Didier brings a wealth of experience and international business background to Phonex," said Mark Massey, Phonex vice president of Marketing and Sales. "We are extremely pleased to announce his appointment to Phonex to manage many of the critical aspects of our international growth."
In his new role, the first product Didier is introducing into the worldwide market is Phoenex' new NeverWire 14. With the NeverWire 14, business or home users with multiple computers can use their existing power lines to create an instant 14MB Ethernet network that allows them to share high-speed internet access, share peripheral devices such as printers, and play interactive network and Internet games.
Key to the NeverWire's early market success has been the product's no-software installation. Consumers can set up their own home networks by simply plugging the products RJ-45 jack into their computer or hub and then plugging the NeverWire into the wall. Likewise, a press of a button automatically configures the NeverWire for 56 des security encryption, and a second LED button on the devices performs an instant network self-test.
One of the most popular uses of the NeverWire 14 device is the ability to connect a computer to a cable or DSL modem in another location of the house. This is a simple process that is possible through a minor configuration to the PC. The resulting network will support both Macintosh and Windows PCs. The NeverWire 14 is also able to support laptop computers through the laptop's Ethernet network interface card.
Consumers can use as many as 16 NeverWire units per powerline network. Each NeverWire 14 unit is capable of handling an unlimited number of computers and other devices such as computers, modems and printers.
Pricing and Availability
The NeverWire 14 costs just US$129 per node and is available now from Phonex and from selected retail dealers in the U.S. and worldwide. For ordering information or for a list of local retail sources, customers can contact the company at 801-566-0100, or visit the company's web site at www.phonex.com.
