Electronic House Magazine names Phonex Corporation NeverWire Plug-and-Play Home Network Device a Product of the Year

Award to be presented at CEDIA Expo tradeshow on September 28

MIDVALE, Utah August 26, 2002 – Phonex Corporation TM Corporation (www.phonex.com), a world leader in Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, today announced that Electronic House Magazine has named Phonex' NeverWire 14 QX-201 TM a Product of the Year for 2002. The NeverWire 14 is a new HomePlug 1.0-compliant device uses "powerline carrier" technology to make use of the unused bandwidth in standard electrical wiring. With the NeverWire, business or home users with multiple computers can use their existing power lines to create an instant 14MB Ethernet network that allows them to share high-speed internet access, share peripheral devices such as printers, and play interactive network and Internet games.

Each year, Electronic House Magazine presents a series of Product of the Year awards to the companies and products that present the most innovative and useful new advances in home electronic technology. The publication considers hundreds of new product entries each year. According to the magazine's editors, the decision to name the NeverWire 14 as one of this year's winners was determined by a unanimous vote. The award will be presented at this year's CEDIA Expo trade show in Minneapolis on September 28.

Beyond other early powerline implementations, the NeverWire introduces the first true plug-and-play solution, with no software drivers or software installation involved. The resulting network will support both Macintosh and Windows PCs. In addition, the NeverWire introduces instant 56 des security encryption. Customers put the security option in place at a touch of a button on the top of each NeverWire device. In addition, the NeverWire includes a button at the top of each device that flashes to provide an instant self-test confirmation that the network has successfully installed itself and that device-to-device communication is fully in place.

The NeverWire 14 costs just US$129 per node and is available now. Each NeverWire device consists of a modem-sized box with two connectors-a power plug and an RJ-45 Ethernet jack. By plugging a NeverWire 14 into the wall, then plugging the RJ-45 jack into your computer or hub, users can instantly tap into a 14MB Ethernet network.

One of the most popular uses of the NeverWire 14 device is the ability to connect a computer to a cable or DSL modem in another location of the house. This is a simple process that is possible through a minor configuration to the PC. The NeverWire 14 is also able to support laptop computers through the laptop's Ethernet network interface card.

"We are extremely excited and pleased to be the recipient of this year's award," said Mark Massey, vice president of marketing for Phonex. "We believe the NeverWire is a significant advancement over previous home networking solutions. It is very rewarding to see the industry respond to this product in such an immediate and positive way."

Consumers can use as many as 16 NeverWire units per powerline network. Each NeverWire 14 unit is capable of handling an unlimited number of computers and other devices such as computers, modems and printers.

The NeverWire 14 is available from Phonex and from selected retail dealers in the U.S. and worldwide. For ordering information or for a list of local retail sources, customers can contact the company at 801-566-0100, or visit the company's web site at www.phonex.com.
