MIDVALE,
Utah
–
July 18, 2002
– Phonex Corporation TM Corporation (www.phonex.com),
a world leader in powerline Carrier (PLC) voice and data
communication devices, today unveiled the company’s new
NeverWire 14 QX-201Ô.
As
the established leader in groundbreaking devices for the
telephony market, 12-year-old Phonex has amassed an
existing customer base of more than 9 million nodes.
Now
the company is accomplishing something even greater: This
week, Phonex is embarking on its worldwide launch of a new
product that will revolutionize the home networking market
for Macs and PCs.
The
new NeverWire 14 device employs “powerline carrier”
technology to make use of the unused bandwidth in standard
home electrical wires. In lay terms, this means business
or home users with multiple computers can use their
existing power lines to create an instant 14MB Ethernet
network. Through the network, users can share high-speed
Internet access, share peripheral devices such as
printers, and play interactive network and Internet games.
Phonex
was the first company to demonstrate and ship consumer
products that employ the powerline concept. As a founding
member of the HomePlug Alliance, an industry association
working to advance and standardize the powerline concept
for home networking, Phonex is now introducing the first
HomePlug 1.0-compliant device to offer complete
out-of-the-box connectivity, with no software drivers
involved. In addition, the NeverWire 14 offers built-in
diagnostics and security functions that users can
implement by simply pressing buttons on the top of the
box.
“As
a leading technology company in the
Utah
region, and as a pioneer in the area of powerline carrier
technology, we are extremely pleased to play a dominant
role in expanding this new market,” said John Knab,
Phonex Corporation’s CEO. “Early market response to
NeverWire has been tremendously positive. We intend to
continue to play a leadership role in this market. And we
are pleased to be providing consumers with a device that
is not only inexpensive and easy to use, but also robust
and secure enough to manage any home or business
concern.”
The
NeverWire 14 costs just $129 per node and is available
now. Consumers can use as many as 16 NeverWire units per
powerline network. Each NeverWire 14 unit is capable of
handling an unlimited number of computers and other
devices such as computers, modems and printers.
The
NeverWire 14 is available from Phonex and from selected
retail dealers in the
U.S.
and worldwide. For ordering information or for a list of
local retail sources, customers can contact the company at
801-566-0100, or visit the company’s web site at
