PHONEX TEAMS WITH ECHOSTAR TO BRING INSTANT TELCO RETURN PATH CONNECTION TO DISH NETWORK SUBSCRIBERS
Midvale - 04.23.2001 - Phonex Corporation, the Utah-based world leader of Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, announced today that it has teamed with EchoStar to provide a simple telco return path connection for DISH Network satellite TV subscribers. EchoStar is now reselling the patented technology of the Phonex Wireless Jack for Modems™ as a means to create an instant telephone jack behind the TV set of its DISH Network customers. The Wireless Jack for Modems provides an easy method of accessing EchoStar's impulse pay-per-view programming and enhanced interactive viewing without requiring DISH Network subscribers to string phone wire around the home or hard wire a telephone jack behind their TV set. EchoStar is making the Phonex product available for purchase during the installation process or through its Web site, www.echostar.com.

Using patented technology, Phonex Corporation's Wireless Jack for Modems is a power line carrier phone extension system that transforms any electrical outlet into a telephone jack, transmitting voice and data signals on 110-volt power lines. It can be plugged into any AC outlet, providing an instant telephone jack for telco return path with "no new wires." The product eliminates the costly installation of hardwired telephone outlets in inconvenient environments, and provides DISH Network users with an effortless way to connect a satellite TV set-top-box to a modem line when a phone jack is not located near their television set.

"We are pleased to be partnering with one of the largest satellite broadcasters in the nation," said Guy L. Standing, director of marketing and sales for Phonex Corporation. "Offering options like the Wireless Jack for Modems gives EchoStar even more ways to enhance their customer satisfaction rating, something they've been praised for by J.D. Power & Associates two years in a row," said Standing. "Like other cable and satellite operators, EchoStar is taking advantage of the only technology that provides an instant remedy to the problem of not having a phone jack in a location best suited to the subscriber."

Phonex has just completed an extensive customer service campaign among DISH Network installers across the nation, intended to demonstrate the ease with which subscribers can use the Wireless Jack for Modems. The product can be set up in less than two minutes, and relocated around a room by simply unplugging it from one electrical outlet and plugging it into another, allowing users to arrange television and entertainment systems in their homes as they wish.

Phonex Corporation will demonstrate its continued support of EchoStar through its participation in this year's DISH Network Team Summit, an annual conference for DISH Network dealers and suppliers that will be held April 26-28 in Phoenix, AZ.
