PHONEX MEETS R&TTE REQUIREMENTS FOR PAN EUROPEAN DISTRIBUTION OF INNOVATIVE PRODUCT THAT TRANSMITS VOICE AND DATA SIGNALS OVER HOME POWER MAINS
Midvale - 03.19.2001 - Phonex Corporation, the Utah-based world leader of Power Line Communication (PLC) voice and data communication devices, announced today that its "EasyJack" product has met the requirements of the R&TTE directive for distribution throughout the European community. The EasyJack device, which reliably transmits voice and data signals over 230 volt power mains, has the CE Mark applied to it in addition to meeting telecom requirements for broad European distribution. The product is already available for purchase in the United Kingdom and Italy, and will now be sold in Spain as well through Thomson multimedia.

Using patented technology that enables telephone devices to communicate reliably using standard power mains, EasyJack is a phone or modem extension system which turns any AC socket into a telephone outlet, transmitting voice and data signals on 230V ring mains. EasyJack can be plugged into any AC socket, providing an instant telephone outlet and distributing all phone, fax, and modem signals to any location within a home or small office without adding new wires. It eliminates expensive phone hookup fees and the need to cut or drill into walls. The EasyJack's U.S. counterparts, the "Wireless Jack for Phones" and the "Wireless Jack for Modems," have an installed base of over 6.5 million nodes worldwide.

Of particular importance to the European market is the EasyJack’s compatibility with set-top-box applications that require a telephone return path because it provides instant connectivity and eliminates the costly installation of hardwired telephone outlets in difficult environments.

EasyJack is compatible with V.34 and V.90 modems, making access to the World Wide Web possible from any AC socket in the home. EasyJack also offers high-end voice quality and includes noise reduction filters and built-in phone lightning surge suppression; security is assured by 65,000 random codes. The device can be installed without any tools by the user in less than two minutes and is compatible with corded and cordless phones, answering machines, and phone services such as call forwarding, call waiting, three-way calling, and conference calling. The product works throughout all levels of a house on the same mains phase, and can be easily relocated around the home within an approximate 25 metre range by simply unplugging it from an AC socket and plugging it into another on the same mains phase.
