CES 2001/Las Vegas, NV - 01.06.2001 - Phonex Corporation, the Utah-based world
leader of Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, will demonstrate the technology behind its new
NeverWire 14 high-speed powerline networking product at CES 2001. The NeverWire 14 broadband technology, which was
recently demonstrated at Comdex, will be the first to transmit voice and data over existing home electrical wiring at
rates as high as 14 Mbps.
NeverWire 14, the only powerline technology of its kind, is currently being developed using Intellon Corporation's Power
Packet chip technology and will be the first high-speed networking device to extend the reach of the Internet and
broadband access networks to every electrical outlet within the home. NeverWire 14 data network devices are
power-plug-to-ethernet-or-USB adapters that plug directly into a power outlet and transmit voice and data signals using
standard electrical wiring. Phonex Corporation plans to begin production of the NeverWire 14 high-speed powerline devices
in 2001.
The demonstration at CES of a broadband powerline networking technology by Phonex is significant because the company is
recognized as the only developer and manufacturer of an established narrow band powerline product already being used in
3.1 million homes. With 12 years experience developing PLC networking devices, Phonex has already delivered on promises
made by key players in the powerline industry to develop products that can transmit voice and data over home electrical
wiring. The NeverWire 14 technology is a natural augmentation of Phonex Corporation's proven narrow band PLC applications
and will provide ultra high-speed communication through an already established, and pervasive worldwide network of
residential powerlines.
