Phonex Corporation IS AWARDED FIVE NEW PATENTS FOR ITS POWER LINE CARRIER VOICE AND DATA COMMUNICATION DEVICES
Midvale, UT - 07.10.2000 - Phonex Corporation, the Utah-based world leader of Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, announced today that it has been awarded three new U.S. patents and two international patents from South Korea and Canada for its power line carrier voice and data communications technology. In addition, the company has purchased patents from several technology companies which give Phonex certain intellectual property rights.

Phonex Corporation also announced today that it has 25 U.S. patents pending and 28 international patents pending for technology associated with wireless and power line carrier broadband and narrow band communications. Patents for which Phonex has applied in the international arena have been filed with South Korea, Russia, Poland, Mexico, Israel, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Japan, and China. Phonex Corporation will also file five additional patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office within the next 30 days.

The five patents awarded to Phonex Corporation over the last 12 months include two international patents: Multiple Access Systems on Telephone Extension Systems, patent number 2,119,378 from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, which conducts multiple access simultaneous telephone communications in full duplex either over power lines or via common RF transmission; and Secure Access and Telephone Extension System and Method, patent number 196,492 from the South Korean Patent Principal Register. Patents awarded by the United States Patent and Trademark Office include Secure Cordless Telephone Extension System and Method, patent number 5,911,119 which provides secure multiple access coding for power line telephone communications systems to prevent eavesdropping and interference in multiple unit dwellings; Wireless Telephone Connection Surge Suppressor, patent number 6,055,435 which permits users to connect one or more electronic devices to surge suppressors and isolate AC power connections while simultaneously providing a communication channel between telephone equipment; and Caller ID System for Wireless Phone and Modem Jacks, patent number 5,970,127, which allows users to connect a caller identification unit to a telephone extension over an AC power line.
