Connections 2000/San Diego, CA - 05.03.2000 - Phonex Corporation, the
Utah-based provider of Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, will announce at Connections 2000
that volume U.S. shipments of its wireless phone jack technology have spurred the company to stake its claim as the world
leader in voice and data communications over home power lines. The announcement will be made by the president and CEO of
Phonex Corporation, John Knab, as he speaks on a Connections 2000 panel alongside guest presenters from Broadcom and Intel
on May 5. "Phonex Corporation has literally tripled its shipping volume within three years, clearly making it the world
leader in voice and data installations over power lines in the home," stated Knab on the opening day of the Connections
2000 show. "Most of the industry has not been aware of Phonex because we have, for the most part, private labeled all our
products, but with an installed base of 2.5 million homes, Phonex can no longer be considered an obscure entity".
The proliferation of applications in the home requiring connection to a telephone outlet has been fueling the surge in
Phonex Corporationís power line installations, and is expected to swell the number of units shipped by mid 2000 to three
million. "What has driven this kind of volume is the convergence of a wide variety of technologies within the home, all
of which need a telephone connection," said Knab. "While most of our installed base is narrowband product sets, Phonex
is also aggressively moving toward broadband solutions. This large narrowband base automatically sets the stage for
acceptance by the evolving home networking market for several new broadband products from Phonex which we plan to
announce in 2000."
The growth in shipping volume for Phonex power line carrier technology over the last three years can also be attributed
to the number of ways that Phonex products are being used to connect the latest technologies within the home. Such
technologies include interactive TV and set-top box applications for cable and satellite. "Many of our OEM customersí
biggest challenge is dealing with the wiring infrastructure within the home during installation of their technology
offerings," explained Knab. "The most significant impediment to the growth of broadband technologies is in the physical
installation. As new high-speed services are brought to the home, Phonex will provide powerful methods for connecting
those services throughout the home without adding new wires," Knab concluded.
