Midvale, UT - 03.22.2000 - Phonex Corporation, the Utah-based world leader of
Power Line Communication (PLC) voice and data communication devices, announced today that it is continuing its efforts
to penetrate European markets by shipping a revolutionary new technology for Italy which transmits voice and data
signals over the power mains in a home. The new ‘Wireless’ Modem Link™ is the second product of its kind to be made
available in Europe, the first being the PhoneXtender™ which also began shipping all over Great Britain this month
and which was showcased at the CEBIT show in Germany. The ‘Wireless’ Modem Link, which has received CTR 21 approval
for use in Europe and as such has met the rigorous requirements for telecom regulation in Italy, is now available
for purchase through the national Italian distributor, Tele System. Using patented technology which enables
telephone devices to communicate reliably using standard power mains, the ‘Wireless’ Modem Link is a phone or
modem extension system which turns any AC socket into a telephone outlet, transmitting voice and data signals on
230v power mains. The ‘Wireless’ Modem Link can be plugged into any AC socket, providing an instant telephone outlet
and distributing all phone, fax, and modem signals to any location within a home or small office without adding new wires.
Of particular importance in the Italian market is the ‘Wireless’ Modem Link capability in Set-Top-Box applications that
require a Telephone Return Path - more - because it provides instant connectivity and eliminates the costly installation
of hardwired telephone outlets in difficult, if not impossible locations. The ‘Wireless’ Modem Link has also been
designed to support V.34 and V.90 modems (28.8 kpbs speeds and higher), making access to the World Wide Web possible
from any AC socket in the home. It is robust enough to support data access over the Internet and fast enough to support
modem speeds required by users on the Web who want to quickly download data. The technology behind the ‘Wireless’ Modem
Link has already been installed in over two million U.S. households where it has been firmly proven for the last 11
years. The ‘Wireless’ Modem Link offers high-end voice quality and includes noise reduction filters. Security is assured
by 65,000 random codes. The device can be installed by the user in less than two minutes and easily moved around the
home within a 30 metre range. Pricing and Availability The ‘Wireless’ Modem Link is available now through major cable
and satellite TV dealers throughout Italy and through the Italian distributor, Tele System: (02) 57-504321. Prices will
be determined by individual retailers and are expected to be approximately 199k Italian lira (or 100 EURO).
The Wireless Modem Jack and Wireless Phone Jack are available under the RCA, GE, Radio Shack, and AT&T Cable
Services name brands within the U.S., and under the Thomson and Adelphia name brands in Great Britain and Italy.
