Phonex Corporation'S NEW SURGE PROTECTOR COMBINES WIRELESS MODEM JACK CONVENIENCE WITH SUPERIOR SURGE SUPPRESSION
Midvale, UT - 03.07.2000 - Phonex Corporation, the Utah-based world leader of Power Line Carrier (PLC) voice and data communication devices, announced today that it has begun shipping a new product which combines superior surge protection with the convenience of the company's patented Wireless Modem Jack technology. The new Wireless Surge Jack (PX-321), which had been designed to address the increased use of telephone, PC, and entertainment devices in the home, provides power line carrier voice and data connection while providing complete surge protection for critical home electronic components.

The Wireless Surge Jack is a 12-outlet surge protector with a joule rating of 1,100 for computer and home theater use. Phonex has incorporated into the PX-321, its Wireless Modem Jack technology, which enables telephone devices to communicate reliably using standard power lines. The Wireless Modem Jack is a wireless carrier current phone extension system which turns any electrical outlet into a telephone jack, transmitting voice and data signals on 110v power lines using closed-circuit, FM transmissions. By combining the Wireless Modem Jack technology with surge protection, consumers can have a phone jack wherever they need one while still enjoying the protection of surge suppression for a myriad of devices in a location which is convenient to the arrangement and set up of those devices in the home. The Wireless Surge Jack provides instant connectivity with "no new wires", transmitting all voice, fax, modem, and impulse pay-per-view signals within a home or small office. It eliminates the costly installation of hardwired telephone outlets in difficult, if not impossible environments, and is an obvious application for cable TV and satellite set top box connection since a telephone outlet is rarely located behind the television set of IPPV cable TV viewers.

Installation of the Wireless Surge Jack takes less than two minutes and is accomplished by plugging the included Wireless Modem Jack base unit into an electrical outlet near an existing telephone jack, then plugging the Wireless Surge Jack into any electrical outlet where an additional telephone jack is desired. The Wireless Surge Jack has been designed to allow users to plug in from four to eight power modules without covering up other outlets on the surge protector. It includes satellite and cable TV connections to protect against electrical surges which may come through the cable or satellite line, a 6-foot cord, and a circuit breaker on/off switch (rated for 15 amps). The Wireless Modem Jack technology incorporated in the Wireless Surge Jack has been designed to support V.34 and V.90 modems (28.8 kpbs speeds and higher).
