Texas Cable Show/San Antonio, TX - 02.11.1999 - Phonex Corporation, the world's only
developer of wireless telephone extension systems, announced today the addition of ITOCHU Cable Services Inc. (iCS)
as a primary distributor of the Phonex Secure Wireless Modem Jack. The nationwide distributor of products to the
CATV, telecommunications, and data networking industries will be an important link for Phonex to a broader base of
cable television operators. Through iCS, MSO's seeking rapid, low-cost methods of deploying cable TV services will
now benefit from even wider access to the Phonex wireless extension technology which makes impulse PPV connection
possible from any electrical outlet.
"Phonex is pleased to have iCS as a primary distributor of the Secure Wireless Modem Jack," said Randy Mansfield, vice
president of marketing and sales at Phonex. "With iCS's expertise in marketing and delivering niche products in the
cable industry, this relationship is a natural fit for both iCS and Phonex."
"Our partnership with Phonex Corporation," said iCS Chief Executive Officer Michael Sparkman, "is indicative of the
high quality, innovative and technologically advanced products iCS is bringing into the telecommunications marketplace
across the country. The addition of the Phonex Secure Wireless Modem Jack to our portfolio of advanced-service-enabling
electronics will make this remarkable product available to every cable operator in America who seeks an inexpensive
and efficient alternative to traditional two-way plant."
The Phonex PX-441 Secure Wireless Modem Jack, which uses patented wireless power line carrier technology, turns any
electrical outlet into a modem jack, transmitting data signals on 110v electrical wiring using closed-circuit, FM
transmissions. It offers a rapid method of installing secure impulse PPV Telco return path in multi-unit dwellings
without having to hard wire telephone jacks where facility modification is forbidden by landlords, and provides secure
data transmission to every cable and digital television subscriber in an MDU regardless of proximity.
The security coding feature of the Secure Wireless Modem Jack creates an address link from the base unit of the
Secure Wireless Modem Jack to the extension unit, providing secure data transmission and eliminating any cross-talk
potential that can sometimes occur in MDU's where multiple cable lines have been installed. The Secure Wireless Modem
Jack has been specifically developed for all Telco return path requirements and offers obvious solutions for other
interactive applications such as hybrid wireless cable modems and interactive set top boxes.
ITOCHU Cable Services Inc. (iCS) is a nationwide distributor of multimedia-enabling products to the CATV,
telecommunications and data networking industries. Specializing in advanced digital and analog telecommunications
electronics, structured network wiring and construction hardware, iCS operates eight sales offices and six warehouses
throughout North America.
